Who needs it at a licensed premises?
Most pubs and bars with employees need employers’ liability (EL) cover. That includes bar and waiting staff, kitchen teams, cleaners, door supervisors and managers on your payroll — whether they work full-time, part-time or seasonally.
On our quote form you declare whether you employ staff and can add EL alongside your public liability package. An advisor checks the details before terms are issued.
Why EL matters in hospitality
Licensed premises combine wet floors, glassware, hot kitchens and busy service — workplace injuries and occupational illness claims do happen. EL covers compensation and legal costs when an employee is injured or becomes ill because of work for you, subject to policy terms.
- Kitchen burns, cuts and slips behind the bar
- Manual handling injuries moving kegs or stock
- Work-related illness claims where covered
- Legal defence alongside settlements
What EL does not cover
Employers’ liability does not cover unfair dismissal, discrimination or breach of contract disputes. It is focused on bodily injury and illness arising from workplace duties. Customer injury claims fall under public liability instead.
Build a full package
Pair EL with public liability and any property extras you need — buildings, contents, stock and business interruption are explained on additional cover. Start the quote form or see FAQs for payment and renewals.
